In February 2014, a consortium consisting of SGCC (owning 51% shares) and Eletrobras won the bid of the project, which is SGCC's first UHV transmission project in the Americas. It includes a ± 800kV transmission line of 2,084km and converter stations at both ends. Its total investment is about 2.47 billion US dollars, of which, 1.26 billion US dollars is from SGCC. This project has been put into operation in December 2017, marking the "going global" of UHV transmission technology with Chinese proprietary intellectual property rights. It is the latest achievement of China and Brazil to deepen their international cooperation in production capacity under the "Belt and Road "Initiative, and a demonstration project showing the application of the "UHV plus Clean Energy" strategy in Latin America, further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Brazil.
In July 2015, SGCC independently won the bidding of the project. It is independently invested, constructed and will be operated solely by SGCC. The project is expected to bring about an export of domestic electric equipments with a total value of 5 billion RMB. It is another major breakthrough of an integrated "going global" of China’s UHV technology, equipment and EPC services. The project will construct a 2,518km-long ±800kV UHV DC transmission line and convertor stations at both ends, with a total investment of about 3.14 billion US dollars. The project started construction in September 2017 and is expected to be put into operation in late 2019. Then it will realize a sound synergy with the Phase 1 project.
