Datka–Kemnh 500kV Electric Transmission Line and Substation Project in Kyrgyzstan

The Project included construction of one 500kV substation and 405km transmission line with a total contract value of 390 million USD. 80% of the transmission line crossing high mountainous area and no man’s land, and passing two snow-capped mountains which snow covered for 8 to 9 months per year. The project is hard to access with great construction difficulty and very short construction period. However, by the hardworking of 2000 workers both from China and Kyrgyzstan, the project was finally completed in August of 2015.
With the completion of the project, rich hydropower energy in Southern Kyrgyzstan was enabled to be transmitting to the northern region, satisfying power demands in Kyrgyzstan, especially for capital city Bishkek and the northern part. The project marked the independence and interconnection of the nation’s power grid, and became the most important energy artery of Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, the transmission line is passing through a series of planed large hydropower station and will also become an important hydropower delivery channel to connect Kazakhstan, China and Tajikistan. The Project is not only a beneficiary to 500 kV power grid construction of Kyrgyzstan and optimization of 220 kV network frame, but also realizing the interconnection of Central Asia power grid.
The President of Kyrgyzstan Nazarbayev attended the project completion ceremony and delivered an important speech. For the outstanding contribution to Energy Sector of Kyrgyzstan, the President granted the highest national Medal of Honor-Danke Medal to TBEA on January 20, 2016.
