Nuclear Power Projects in UK

On October 21st 2015, witnessed by President Xi Jinping and former British Prime Minister David Cameron, CGN and EDF signed the investment agreement on UK nuclear new build projects in London, followed by the framework of collaborating in British nuclear projects, which cleared that China will lead the development of BRB nuclear power project with unit 3 of Fangchenggang nuclear power plant as reference station, deploying HPR1000 technology.
September 15 2016, British government gave the ‘go-ahead’ to HPC project, with ‘special share’ on all future nuclear new build projects to avoid any risk on selling related shares without consent from the government.
September 29 2016, all final agreements for the Hinkley Point C Project (HPC) were signed, with a suite of agreements relating to Sizewell C (SZC) and Bradwell B (BRB) with the EDF Group (EDF) and the UK government. At the same time, the agreements signed would also enable preparatory work to begin on BRB, allowing CGN to put its HPR1000 technology through the UK’s Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process.
HPC project is in the South West England. The power plant will be meeting 7% of the power demand in the UK, and supplying electricity to 6 million households, with carbon emission of 9 million tons. The project provides 26 thousand jobs during construction period and 900 long term jobs after completion, which facilitates the development of French and British supply chain, skills and education.
