The project has been the largest photovoltaic (PV) power station project currently in Africa and also the first PV power station cooperation project between China and Algeria; it is also the largest overseas PV power station project undertaken by POWERCHINA. The project contract was officially signed on December 11th of 2013 under EPC model with the total contract value of 557 million US dollars. The project was officially initiated on December 11th of 2014. Currently, 15 power stations in three bid sections have been combined to the grid. The project has entered into the closeout phase, progress of which has been accepted by the owner.
During implementation of the project, over one hundred people of Algerian owners and technical personnel in totally 12 batches have been organized to participate in learning and training programs in China on construction techniques, operation, maintenance and management of PV power stations. Well-trained personnel who have full construction, operation and maintenance capabilities shall serve as technical talents for PV power stations in Algeria. Meanwhile, the project has accelerated over 40 enterprises from China to be directly involved in PV modules, bracket, electric appliance and freight of the project, which have promoted downstream industrial chain and PV power station projects to support each other in expanding overseas operations.
