With an installed gross capacity of 204MW, the project consists of the 51MW Adama wind farm phase I and 153MW Adama wind farm phase II. With a total contract value of 462 million US dollars and annual output of 630 million kWh, it has been the second largest wind power project in the African Continent. It is known as a banner of wind power construction on East African Plateau and also a demonstrative project for green energy construction in East Africa, even the entire Africa. It has been the first new energy project in China sponsored by “preferential loans for foreign aid and preferential buyer`s credit” and the first new energy project in China for overall going global of technologies, standards, equipment, capitals and contracting; it is a project that has truly realized “going global” of the entire project.
The first-phase project was completed on April 29th of 2013; the second-phase project was granted with the temporary take-over certificate on May 24th of 2016 and officially entered into commercial operation period. In December of 2015, at the opening ceremony of “China-Africa Equipment Manufacturing Industry Exhibition” in South Africa, president Xi Jinping introduced Adama wind power project to politicians from various African countries.
