Floating offshore pilot project in Groix Island is located in the French Atlantics, and the planned capacity is 24MW. Project Groix is the first batch of its kind in France supported by French government and it is also a pioneer around the world. Floating offshore can exploit broader seas and more powerful wind; it has greater potential than fixed offshore in the long term. There are large sea areas in China's coastal areas and in Taiwan where it is suitable for the floating offshore development, and in Europe it is estimated that 50GW floating offshore will be installed by 2030. CGN participated in the bidding with French developer EOLFI and came out on top. CGN occupies the first-mover advantage and lead the development of the whole industry to maturity, creating jobs in the upper and down-stream. Meanwhile CGN explored the new cooperation mode between Chinese firms and foreign firms in the renewable industry and made itself known for the European market. The success of project Groix shows that CGN begins to develop wind project by itself in its core European market: France and obtain the root and foothold as a foreigner.
