A bird's eye view of Dufferin wind farm, Canada
Developed by Longyuan Power Group under China Guodian Corporation, Dufferin wind power project is located in Melancthon, Dufferin county, Ontario, Canada, 120km away from Toronto. The total installed capacity is 99MW including 49 wind turbines and 47km 230KV transmission lines which is equal to the electricity demands for 30 thousand local households. The project is part of the Ontario government's "Feed-in-Tariff" program, which is a green wind power project that has signed a long-term electricity purchase agreement with the Ontario government. The project is the first overseas wind project developed, invested, constructed and operated solely by Chinese state-owned enterprise. The purchase agreement was signed in June 2011, permitted by Ontario authority in 2013 and began construction in August 2013. It was commercially commissioned by the end of 2014. The Dufferin project is China's largest investment project in Ontario, which achieved considerable economic and social benefits, and the project also shows the world the strength and capabilities of China's renewable energy companies. This unprecedented pioneering project does not only enhanced the characteristics of Longyuan Power as an international wind power developer, but also setup a vivid example for other state-owned enterprises longing for investment overseas.
