De Aar wind power project in South Africa is a project solely, invested, constructed and operated by China Guodian. It is the 1st wind farm in Africa invested by Chinese state-owned utility company. All 163 wind turbines are supplied by United Power under China Guodian Corportion. Longyuan South Africa Renewable (Pty) Ltd. won the two South African projects in South Africa national tender in October 2013. The total installed capacity is 244.5MW, with De Aar I consist of 100.5MW and De Aar II consist of 144MW. The two projects were financially closed and started construction in 2015 and will be commercially commissioned by the end of 2017. The implementation of the De Aar wind farm projects marks a new break through for China Guodian Corporation following the state "going out" strategy in investing, constructing and operating wind farm in overseas market. It also provides precious experiences for developing new wind farm projects in the rest of the world.
