Port Qasim Coal-fired Power Plant Project in Pakistan

It is a coal-fired power project jointly invested and constructed by POWERCHINA and international capitals (Al Mirqab Capital in Qatar) under the innovated BOO model. Investment of the project totals 2.1 billion US dollars, with POWERCHINA accounting for 51%. Besides capitals, the project is financed through the Export-Import Bank of China.
The project has a self-built wharf. The power plant uses 2 660MW supercritical coal-fired power generating units. It was officially initiated in May of 2015; by the end of 2017, the first unit is estimated to be combined to the grid. In June of 2018, two units will be successfully put into commercial operation, and the annual on-grid energy shall reach about 9 billion kWh.
Being in the first batch of landed ones among “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor” Preferential Implementation Projects, the project has accelerated “going out” of whole industrial chain capacity of capitals, technologies, equipment and standards in China and fully manifested advantages of POWERCHINA in the whole industrial chain. The project has a great significance for propelling the Belt and Road Initiative construction and implementing plans associated with “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”.
