Coca Codo Sinclair Hydropower Project (hereinafter as CCS Project) is located at Coca river basin in Eastern Ecuador. Dam site of the power station is about 130 km from the capital city Quito. As a diversion power station, it has 8 units and an installed gross capacity of 1,500 MW. With the contract value of 1,979.7 million US dollars and annual output of 8.8 billion kWh, it can meet power demands of one-third of the national population of Ecuador after completion. It has been the largest hydropower station project with the largest amount of foreign investment in the history of Ecuador and also the largest F+EPC hydropower station engineering project of POWERCHINA in overseas engineering contracting.
CCS Project was initiated on July 28th of 2010. On April 13th of 2016, the first batch of four units was successfully combined to the grid. On the grand power generation ceremony held by the owner, Glas, vice president of Ecuador, announced through media to the whole country that the first batch of CCS Project units were officially put into operation. On November 18th of 2016, president Xi Jinping and president Rafael Correa participated in the completion and power generation video connection in Quito and jointly pressed the initiation button, announcing the official completion and power generation of CCS Project.
