Malaysian Manjung Power Station wins APFPM Chief Judge Award

        The Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management (APFPM) recently won the management excellence award for international projects - Chief Judge Award.

        The Malaysian Manjung 1000 MW Coal-fired Power Plant built by the group’s POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company was included on the list of winners. This is the third award for this project after it won the Top Industrial Project Award by the US Electric Power in 2015 and the Gold Award for Coal-fired Power Project by Asia Power Grid in 2015.

        Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management (APFPM) is a collaboration work platform for project management organizations in the Asia Pacific region which is jointly sponsored by professional project management organizations in such countries and regions as China, Hong Kong SAR, Australia, the US, Japan, India, Indonesia, and Nepal, and which was established in April 2010. The APFPM aims to promote synergies between professional project management organizations in the Asia-Pacific region and facilitate the role of project management in production practice. It holds one or two formal meetings annually to exchange experiences in project management, and to commend outstanding units and individuals in project management.

        The Malaysian Manjung Power Plant Project, as the first million-kilowatt unit in Southeast Asia, and is invested in and funded by Tenaga Nasional Berhad; Alstom and China National Machinery Group act as the general contractors for construction; Tokyo Electric Power, as the owner’s supervising engineer company, supervises and manages the whole project construction. POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company is chiefly responsible for installation and commissioning under the BOP mode.

        Since the construction of the project, POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company has been committed to building a model project in accordance with international standards and the concept of “copy of excellent projects in foreign countries”. It has endeavored to make continuous improvements in engineering management, quality management, and safe and environmentally-friendly construction, with a view to fulfilling the various tasks and objectives by virtue of its stellar technological level and sound contractual capacity. This has laid a solid foundation for the stable operation of generator units and its transfer for commercial operation. The official delivery of Manjung Power Plant Project in April 2015 marked the first million-kilowatt unit in Southeast Asia put into commercial operation on schedule and becoming the coal-fired unit with highest thermal efficiency in Malaysia and even Southeast Asia as a whole, fully demonstrating the good image and powerful strength of POWERCHINA.
