Energy storage enhances summer peak power supply

During the critical period of ensuring stable and sufficient power supply for the summer peak demand, the Shaoxing Jiangbin 50 megawatts/100 megawatt-hours independent energy storage power station was connected to the grid and put into operation on July 8. In recent days, the power load of the State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Co has continued to surge, hitting record highs. The timely commissioning of this station has added a crucial peak-shaving safeguard for the regional summer peak period. 


The station can reportedly store 100,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity in a single charge, with an annual charge-discharge capacity of 66 million kWh – equivalent to saving approximately 13,000 metric tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 40,000 tons per year. To cope with the current challenges of high temperatures and heavy loads, the station adopts an operating model that alleviates regional power supply pressure, enhances renewable energy accommodation capacity, and simultaneously strengthens regional grid capabilities in peak load shifting, valley filling, frequency regulation, voltage regulation, and emergency backup. This not only provides flexible regulatory support for this summer's power supply assurance, but also injects new momentum into the clean and low-carbon transformation of the energy mix. 


Grid-side energy storage projects involve numerous grid-connection acceptance procedures and demand high standards. State Grid Shaoxing intervened early, established a dedicated service team for full-process tracking, and completed key steps such as grid-connection specification review and access plan formulation.


At the same time, the company coordinated with local quality supervision and fire protection authorities to conduct centralized parallel inspections of core indicators, including equipment safety protection and fire protection facility configurations. From project commencement to grid connection, the entire process took only six months, significantly shortening the turnaround cycle. 


State Grid Shaoxing will continue to provide robust monitoring and dispatching management for the grid-connected operation of the energy storage station, ensuring that it can operate stably throughout the summer peak period. Meanwhile, the company will summarize the service experience of dedicated team tracking and parallel acceptance, promote the customized service model to a wider range of projects, facilitate the efficient grid connection of more high-quality energy storage projects, and contribute to the realization of regional "dual carbon" goals and the upgrading of green industries.
