The cumulative electricity transmitted from ultra-high-voltage (UHV) power projects in Xiliin Gol League, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, surpassed 350 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) as of June 2, according to State Grid Inner Mongolia UHV Co.
This is equivalent to the annual household electricity consumption of approximately 116 million families. The transmission has also helped save about 110 million metric tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 291 million tons.
Blessed with abundant wind and solar resources, Xiliin Gol has become a key clean energy base in northern China. Since the commissioning of the 1,000-kV Xiliin Gol League–Shandong UHV alternating current (AC) transmission project in July 2016, electricity generated on the grasslands has been delivered to provinces and municipalities such as Shanxi, Hebei, Tianjin, Shandong, and Jiangsu.

The commissioning of the Zhangbei–Shengli 1,000-kV UHV AC project in October 2024 further strengthened the banner's power transmission network. The project, which links the major renewable energy bases of Xiliin Gol League and Zhangjiakou, increased the total transmission capacity of the banner's UHV channels to 18.2 million kilowatts (kW), enhancing cross-regional energy allocation and grid stability.
Xiliin Gol is one of China's most promising regions for the development of renewable energy, with 60 million kW of exploitable wind power resources and over 100 million kW of exploitable solar power resources.
The total installed capacity connected to the banner's UHV network currently stands at 20.93 million kW, of which renewable energy accounts for 10.99 million kW, or 52 percent. Of the 350 billion kWh transmitted so far, 108 billion kWh came from renewable energy sources, representing 30.8 percent of the total.
