Shenhua Power Plant in Java — Another Achievement of the Belt and Road Initiative

On Oct. 5, Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Shenhua Power Plant in Java. He personally pushed the start button and attended Shenhua President Ling Wen’s briefing on Shenhua’s power projects in Indonesia.

The Java project is equipped with the largest single power generation unit in Indonesia. It is also the largest of all the units of its kind that have been exported overseas by Chinese enterprises. This is an important achievement of Shenhua’s implementation of the “going global” strategy within the framework of the Belt and Road.
Construction on the other projects of Indonesia’s 35-million-kw electric power generation program kicked off at the same time, including Java’s No. 9 and No. 10 steam electric generating stations, Independent Power Producer’s 660,000-kw steam electric generating station in Banten, and a 20-million-ton coal depot.
As the world’s largest clean energy supplier, Shenhua has cooperated with other stakeholders, including the Indonesia National Power Company, to build world-class coal-fired power generation projects. At present, Shenhua is franchising and operating three coal-fired power projects in Indonesia.
        1. China Shenhua Guohua Power Plant in South Sulawesi. By September 30, 2017, this plant has generated 10.823 billion kwh of power. It won the title of Indonesia’s Best IPP Power Plant, and passed Indonesia’s SMK3 safety and health management system gold certificate review.

        3. China Shenhua Guohua Power Plant in Maylong. Shenhua won the bidding in December 2015. The project is scheduled to begin its construction in May 2018, and will be operational by the end of 2020. Ling Wen indicated that Shenhua will continue to work hard on the safe, efficient and green operation of all the projects in Indonesia. He expressed Shenhua’s willingness to continue to provide the world with clean energy, and contribute to the realization of the Chinese Dream.
