The 19th Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Innovation & Industrial Design, co-hosted by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was issued in Beijing on Dec. 13, 2017. The patent for “a cyclone dry coal powder gasifier”, with former Shenhua Group and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group as the joint patent holders, won the gold award. This is the only gold award won by enterprises affiliated with the National Energy Investment Group.
        “A cyclone dry coal powder gasifier” is the complete set of technology for the pressured gasification of dry coal powder. The innovative design with independent intellectual property rights has been applied in Shenhua Ningxia’s coal-to-oil project for indirect liquefaction of coal with the capacity of 4 million tons per year. The application of the patented technology has achieved good economic benefits and market value. The technical program of the apparatus is simple in structure, easy for manufacturing, convenient in maintenance, large in load, and suitable for a wide range of coal quality, especially large-scale production process of coal gasification with a daily capacity of 2,000-3,000 tons. The rate of carbon conversion can reach 98 percent or higher. Twenty-eight patented gasifiers have undergone Operational Readiness Demonstration (ORD) with the world’s largest coal-to-oil project, with accumulated economic returns of 390 million yuan (US$60 million). The application of the technology is of great significance for safeguarding national energy security and promoting the clean conversion and efficient use of coal.
        The SIPO-WIPO Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Innovation & Industrial Design is an award to encourage and honor patentees and inventors (designers) who have made outstanding contribution to technological (design) innovation and economic and social development. It is the highest honor in China's patent field.
